Location - Drogheda

Built on a cluster of hills above the broad and slow-moving River Boyne, the town of Drogheda is a rare mix of the new and the old. It is a busy bustling town, the largest in the country it is a shopper's delight of wide streets and narrow lanes lined with old established stores, colourful boutiques, coffee shops and craft shops. In recent years there has been massive investment in infrastructure making Drogheda more accessible to Dublin and Belfast.

There are narrow alleyways and flights of steps that add considerably to the character of the town, together with different street levels which intrigue and interest, blending with new developments such as Scotch Hall and others. Modern and vibrant, the town of Drogheda sits comfortably with its interesting past, a past echoed by its many fine historical buildings.

The skyline of Drogheda is punctuated by the many spires and belfries of the town's churches, some of which are superb examples of Georgian and Neo-Gothic architecture. The classical tower and spire of St Peter's Church, Peter Street, built in 1748, dominates the north-east corner of Drogheda. One of the most impressive buildings in the town is the tall, twin towered St. Laurance's Gate, built in the 13th Century as an outer defence gate of the town walls.
